Millennials want companies to pay attention to how they are marketing and do so in a social responsible way.

Millennials just might be the key to driving socially responsible marketing practices. They want the companies they patronize to practice business sustainably and ethically. Not only that, they want companies to pay attention to how they are marketing and do so in a socially responsible way. Why should we listen? Because by 2030 millennials will outnumber boomers by 22 million per a Pew Research Center report.

Capitalizing on in-person opportunities as well as digital opportunities brings us Back to the Future.

Last week we hosted our sixth South by Southwest Interactive “Denver Download” – a chance for our clients and partners who attended the SXSWi conference in March to share the knowledge they gained with other clients, partners and colleagues back here in Denver. This year’s panel consisted of Comcast’s Cindy Parsons (who hosted one of the festival’s on-site social media lounges), Sukle’s Dan Schultz, Children Hospital Colorado’s Elizabeth Whitehead and yours truly. Below is a recap of common themes that were discussed during the event – all relevant concepts to look to as evolving trends in digital marketing in 2017.

Given their rise toward the top of the list of most popular social media platforms, it’s no surprise that we’ve got a lot to talk about when it comes to Instagram and Snapchat this week. Squeezing into the picture, too, is our old friend Facebook, which recently started testing Snapchat-style camera effects.

TechCrunch: Facebook Tests Snapchat-Style Camera Special Effects With Ephemeral Sharing

While not available globally quite yet, we’re excited to see Facebook’s Snapchat-like features that it just began testing in Ireland. New-to-Facebook features will feel similar to those available on Snapchat, including animated selfie-masks and geofilters, along with some unique “reactive” filters that respond to the user’s movements. It’s unlikely these changes will override Snapchat, but instead give Facebook loyalists a reason to stay on one platform.

Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use starting birth years ranging from the late 1970s to early 1980s and ending birth years ranging from the mid-1990s to early 2000s. State of News Media Shows Changing Habits of Americans

Fellow iPad UserI recently caught a segment on CBS Sunday Morning about a Spanish language TV show called “Sábado Gigante,” a three-hour program that airs every Saturday night and is viewed by millions of people in the U.S. and in 40 countries around the world. The interview included Don Francisco, the gregarious host who has missed just one week in the 53 years since the show began. Amid declining viewership over the past few years, particularly among younger viewers, the show is ending its historic run.

That’s just one example of how TV viewing habits have changed dramatically over the past decade, particularly among the Gen X and Y viewers. Many in these age groups are forgoing cable TV in favor of the massive on-demand content of Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. According to a Retrevo “Pulse Report,” 23 percent of people under 25 watch most of their television content online compared with just 8 percent of people over 25.
