GroundFloor Media Honored by the Communitas Awards for National Leadership in Community Service

 

GroundFloor Media launches Get Giving; expands community involvement


DENVER, Aug. 30, 2010
GroundFloor Media Communications, a Denver-based public relations agency, today announced its recent recognition as a 2010 Communitas Awards winner for leadership in community service. The Communitas Awards recognize exceptional businesses, organizations and individuals that are unselfishly giving of their time and resources, and those that are changing how they do business to benefit their communities. GroundFloor Media was one of the select award winners out of more than 200 submissions nationwide to receive the coveted leadership award.

"By recognizing individuals, organizations and companies for their volunteerism and socially responsible business practices, we are hoping to not only bring attention to great programs, but are working with community-minded leaders to make the spirit of communitas an essential element of every business," said Ed Dalheim, executive director of the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.

“During the past nine years, GroundFloor Media has continually expanded our involvement in the community – giving back is core to who we are as individuals and as an agency,” said Laura Love, president and founder of GroundFloor Media. “GroundFloor Media believes that being firmly grounded in our community is one of the best things we can do to improve the world for those around us. The Communitas Award recognizes this belief and reinforces the value of our ongoing commitment to the communities in which we work and live.”

The GroundFloor Media’s community outreach program includes three primary components:

  • GetGrounded focuses on employee involvement in the community. Team members can choose to volunteer time through the donation of paid time off or to receive cash grants to nonprofits, schools or other Section 501(c)(3) organizations or projects for which they volunteer.
  • Launched in 2010, Get Giving is another way for team members, as well as families, friends, clients and associates, to contribute to local organizations in need of charitable donations. Every other month, GroundFloor Media selects a local nonprofit, including food pantries, animal shelters, schools, women’s shelters and other organizations with which our staff have personal connections. GroundFloor Media accepts donations at our office and delivers them to the facility.
  • The Get Connected seminar series was designed to connect communications industry leaders in order to share best practices and has been updated in 2010 to focus on connecting early-stage, women entrepreneurs with local experts in media and communications. Building on GroundFloor Media’s legacy as a women-owned business, the next complimentary workshop is scheduled for Oct. 6 and will review best practices and tips in online communications and media relations.

Each year, GroundFloor Media donates the equivalent of nearly 15 percent of annual revenues back to the community – comprised of cash contributions, pro bono public relations, a reduced billing rate for nonprofit clients and staff time committed to community organizations. Since 2003, Tennyson Center for Children has been the pro bono recipient of GroundFloor Media’s public relations efforts. GroundFloor Media has provided ongoing public relations counsel to the Center and has developed both social media and crisis communication plans for the
organization.
