EO and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Present Kauffman Community Award to GroundFloor Media
DENVER, CO – (August 18, 2006) – The Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) recently honored Laura Love, founder and president of GroundFloor Media, Inc, and and two other EO members from across the country, with the Kauffman Community Award, sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, on August 17, 2006, at the EO Chicago University program. Love has been an EO member since 2004 and was recognized for her personal and corporate commitment to the Tennyson Center for Children, the largest combined residential and day treatment facility for children ages five to 14 in the Rocky Mountain Region.
The Kauffman Community Award was created to honor outstanding individual entrepreneurs and EO chapter efforts that have made a significant difference in their local communities. The award was named for the late Ewing Marion Kauffman, the founding chairman of Marion Laboratories, and stands as official recognition on the part of the foundation that entrepreneurs make a broader and invaluable contribution to their communities-beyond the confines of the business world-as engaged citizens. These programs provide a message of inspiration and motivation about the power of giving back.
Community giving is rooted in Love's belief that companies, as well as individuals, must be good tenants of the world. Love is committed to donating 20 percent of her company's services annually to nonprofits and began working with her first full-time pro bono client in 2003. GroundFloor Media not only supports the Tennyson Center with its public relations and community outreach initiatives, but also provides the Center with its employee's time and financial contributions. Love is a member of the Tennyson Center's Board of Directors and just recently joined its Executive Committee. Additionally, GroundFloor Media gave a donation in its clients' names to the Tennyson Center for Children in lieu of client holiday gifts in 2005. The donation was a reflection of Love's and her staff's focus on giving back to the community.
"It is important that as entrepreneurs, we support and contribute to our community," says Love. "Regardless of the size of the company, we can all be agents of change. It is important that we, as business leaders, continue to offer our services to help nonprofits achieve their business goals. I am thankful to the Kauffman Foundation for their generous grant to the Tennyson Center."
Judging criteria included the following: an innovative approach to solving a problem in the community; creative use of available resources; ability of model to be replicated; leadership in identifying the issue and addressing it with positive results; and demonstration of measurable results.
