GroundFloor Media Receives Top Honors in New Media and Media Relations at Colorado Healthcare Communicators 2008 Annual Awards

Public relations agency recognized for outstanding work with Children's Hospital Colorado and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

DENVER, CO – (December 31, 2008) – GroundFloor Media, Inc., a Denver-based public relations agency, was awarded the 2008 Grand Gold Leaf Award and 2008 Nonprofit Project of the Year Award from the Colorado Healthcare Communicators for work conducted on behalf of its clients, Children's Hospital Colorado and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, respectively. The firm was recognized for its work in both traditional media relations and the emerging field of social media.

For more than 20 years, Colorado Healthcare Communicators has recognized Colorado-based hospitals, nonprofit organizations and marketing and communication agencies for outstanding accomplishments in the healthcare arena. The Grand Gold Leaf Award is the highest honor awarded to an entrant by Colorado Healthcare Communicators at the Gold Leaf Awards. To earn the 2008 Grand Gold Leaf honor, GroundFloor Media and Children's Hospital Colorado scored 119 points out of a possible 120 for the campaign, “Children's Hospital Colorado Makes 111 Miracles Happen.”

After working together in partnerships for more than two years, Chuck Reyman, public relations director at Children's Hospital Colorado, stated “The strength and quality of our partnership was on full display at the (Colorado Healthcare Communicators awards) ceremony with the wonderful acknowledgement by our peer professionals.”

Not only did GroundFloor Media and Children's Hospital Colorado receive the Grand Gold Leaf Award for the campaign, “Children's Hospital Colorado Makes 111 Miracles Happen,” but this campaign also received a Gold Leaf Award in the media relations category. This campaign consisted of an aggressive, proactive local and regional media relations strategy during Children's Hospital Colorado’s move to its new state-of-the-art facility at I-225 and Colfax in September 2007.

For the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) Emergency Preparedness and Response Division, GroundFloor Media received the Nonprofit Project of the Year Award and a Gold Leaf Award in the new media category for the What If? Colorado social media campaign, which was comprised of both traditional and non-traditional public relations components, including a reality competition, to educate Coloradans about pandemic influenza and the need for emergency preparedness. This campaign was a big step outside of the CDPHE’s traditional means of communicating in terms of awareness campaigns but proved that the needle can really be moved through integrated traditional and social media strategies.

“We place extremely high importance on joining with our clients in true partnerships,” said Ramonna Tooley, vice president and managing partner of GroundFloor Media. “Our clients aren't just the beneficiaries of our hard work and dedication, they're our partners and are involved every step of the way. We are continually thinking about their business and how best to share their message with their key audiences, especially as the public relations landscape continues to change and evolve daily. In fact, we recently developed a new program at GroundFloor Media that specializes in social networking.”
