Biography | The Real Story

Shawna Golden grew up in sunny Scottsdale, Ariz., where she always thought she’d be a journalist or a marine biologist (even though she grew up in a landlocked state). She may have left the desert behind, but the Colorado sunshine called her name. Now, she and her husband make sure that their kiddos enjoy the outdoor beauty of Colorado as well.

They love the simple things, like family hikes. And of course, like most of us, they also love the many outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer, including running, snowboarding, cycling, swimming, snowshoeing and camping. Her heroes are her parents, who gave her a magical childhood and have always encouraged her to pursue her goals. And while many people collect “things”, her “collections” mainly consist of her children’s artwork and photos.

An accidental music connoisseur, Shawna credits her husband for seeking, finding and curating the best tunes to share at home. At any given time, you will find Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Kings of Leon or My Morning Jacket on her playlist. Among life’s best moments, she counts kicking back and listening to live music during a summer day in the mountains.

In addition to their two lucky littles, she and her husband also have a dog-child they call “Snowmass,” a 120-pound Greater Swiss Mountain dog. With the kids creating, a husband spinning the best new tunes, and a dog bigger than 75 percent of the household, their home is rarely quiet. But somewhere among the laughing, dancing, running, jumping and barking, you’ll find our funny, thoughtful and loyal Shawna. As you can imagine, she’s not a fan of selfish entitled people, which is probably why her family is so darn fun!
