We are excited to partner with PlatteForum to help advance their art and learning lab through our Get Grounded Foundation. PlatteForum is a non-profit organization that supports contemporary artists and underserved youth in metro Denver through long-term art programs. Their programs allow youth to collaborate with artists in residence to plan, produce and exhibit a body of work in an environment where artistic excellence is highly valued.
The Get Grounded Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to PlatteForum to support an Artist Residency with an Art Lab and a Learning Lab called Soil City. The program blends the study of the environment with the creative process and allows at-risk youth to experience one-on-one interactions with a mentor-artist. “Soil City encourages students to discover Denver’s changing landscape, foodways and people by creating a series of living soil-based portraits of Denver that collectively compose a tapestry of our urban landscape,” said Kim McCarty, Executive Director of PlatteForum. “We are so grateful to receive the Get Grounded Foundation grant which is helping us serve 15 students in an intensive residency and another 250 youth as part of the community engagement and exhibition.”
